Kintsugi has recently been “discovered” outside of Japan as a puzzle-making activity that supposedly joins broken pieces with molten gold. In fact, kintsugi is more akin to a repair-through-adding, and the process & materials are decidedly humble, time-consuming and unglamorous. Nothing makes a better metaphor for creative life than the difficulty and investment of such a process, only for a final layer of gold dust to make it all look easy. 金継ぎ、あるいはあなたにしか語れない物語 金継ぎは最近、日本以外でも「発見」されつつある。壊れた陶器の破片を溶けた金でつなぎ合わせる、まるでパズル作りのような作業。実際のところ、金継ぎは「継ぎ足し」による修理に近いものであり、実際の工程と材料は明らかに地味で、時間がかかり、華やかではない。最後に金粉をかけるだけで、すべてが簡単に見える金継ぎの背景にある、難しさや過程における投資ほど、クリエイティブな人生のメタファーにふさわしいものはない。
