Ice-Quebras — How can Games help overcome Social Anxiety in Social Gatherings
Description
How many of us arrive at a party or social event where we don't know anyone else, and overwhelming anxiety rushes in, paralyzing us in our moment to talk with new people? Before, we would play board, card, or couch-co-op games to spend time and break the ice with others. Now, we have multiplayer online experiences, online events, and the rise of ice-breaker dynamics to break through that anxiety and awkwardness. However, what happens when we go back to physical social gatherings? Will those awkward feelings resurface again? Meet Ice-quebras, a table game meant to be played in groups of up to four people, filled with four different challenge categories — Ice-Breakers, Improvisation, Conversation, and Memory —designed to help reduce anxiety and let people get to know each other without feeling judged or stressed-out, even if they are introverted or struggle with anxiety.
